Using Everything DiSC® in Algerian Companies: A Game-Changer for Teamwork and Leadership

Let me tell you a little story.
A couple of years ago, I joined a small startup here in Algeria — full of heart, big dreams, and a team that genuinely wanted to make workplaces better. At the time, we were just a few people, a shared Google Drive, and a lot of “Inchallah the internet works today.”
Since then, we’ve grown. We have a slightly bigger office, new coworkers, and more projects than we sometimes know what to do with. The Wi-Fi? Still terrible. But hey, progress isn’t always linear!
What hasn’t changed is the challenge we keep seeing — in big companies, small teams, and even among ourselves: Communication is hard. People misunderstand each other. Emotions get misread. Motivation drops.
That’s something we’ve experienced firsthand in our own team.
We’re a small mix of Algerians and Americans, from different backgrounds, work cultures, and communication styles. When new coworkers joined recently, the mix got even richer — and, let’s be honest, a little more chaotic at times.
Add in cultural nuances, language quirks, and a few “Did they mean that… or is it just me?” moments — and you’ve got the perfect recipe for misunderstandings.
Let me paint the picture with a few real examples from our team (thanks to Everything DiSC® Catalyst):
🌀 Me (iD)
I bring energy, ideas, and a lot of enthusiasm. I’m expressive, assertive (sometimes too much), and I love keeping things moving. But I’m also not a fan of conflict, and I tend to rush in without overthinking.
⚖️ Idir (CS)
Calm, soft-spoken, and thoughtful. He prefers clear structure, takes his time, and brings emotional sensitivity I often overlook. I’d barge in with an excited pitch, and he’d respond with a quiet, “Nekhamou A Soumeya w Nchoufou..” At first, I felt unheard — but DiSC helped me realize he was adding stability, not resistance. Now I rely on his calm lens.
🌱 Matthew (S)
One of our American teammates. Kind, low-key, and emotionally supportive. He doesn’t raise his voice and values harmony. We’re both energetic and private, but he brings a quiet empathy that balances out my fast pace. I learned from him that you don’t need to speak loudly to be heard.
🎯 Vienna (C)
Focused, precise, and calm. She values accuracy and closure. I’m more flexible and spontaneous, so early on, we clashed. I’d say, “Let’s keep our options open,” and she’d calmly ask, “But what’s the final decision?” Now I try to be clearer, and she’s more patient when I go off track.
🛡️ Ikhlass (Di)
Fast-paced, sharp, and unafraid to challenge ideas. She’ll push back (with love), and she doesn’t hesitate to call things out. Our styles overlap — we both like visibility and action — but I tend to be less confrontational, while she thrives on healthy debate. I used to take it personally when she challenged me. Now? I see it as her way of saying, “I care enough to speak up.”
🌸 Rania (SC)
Warm, creative, and gentle. She’s someone who naturally nurtures the team. Our biggest difference? I’m more assertive and focused on practical action, while she’s emotionally intuitive and often sees possibilities I miss. She reminds me that sometimes, people just need a little softness.
What changed after DiSC wasn’t just how we worked — it was how we understood each other.
It gave us the vocabulary to say things like: “I’m not ignoring you — I just process things differently.” “That’s not personal — it’s just how I express ideas.”
It took out the guesswork and the silent tension, and replaced it with awareness and (sometimes awkward) but honest conversations.
So… What Is Everything DiSC®?
Everything DiSC® isn’t a magic wand. It won’t suddenly make your team sit around the couscous dish and pass the spoon in perfect harmony (though if that happens, please share ). But it does give you something powerful: a clear map of how people prefer to work, communicate, and handle conflict.
At its core, DiSC is a simple but powerful behavioral model that helps people understand themselves and others. Everyone falls somewhere across four styles:
D (Dominance) – Results-driven, direct, confident
i (Influence) – Enthusiastic, social, talkative
S (Steadiness) – Calm, supportive, dependable
C (Conscientiousness) – Analytical, detail-oriented, precise
You get a personal profile — and then you can compare your style with your teammates’ using the Catalyst™ platform.
💡 It’s not about boxing people in. It’s about understanding what motivates them, what stresses them out, and how to communicate in a way they’ll actually hear.
In our experience, that’s a game-changer — especially in Algerian workplaces, where hierarchy, emotions, and unspoken expectations often shape daily interactions.
How Algerian Companies Can Start Using Everything DiSC®
You don’t need a full-blown transformation to get started. Sometimes it begins with a single conversation — or a fun, insightful workshop that helps teams explore their DiSC styles together.
Our team would be happy to support with that part — whether it’s facilitating sessions directly or training internal staff to lead them in-house.
Once people start learning about their styles (and each other’s), you’ll notice the difference. Meetings flow better. Feedback lands softer. Teamwork feels less like guesswork and more like… well, teamwork.
Curious about what this could look like for your team? We’re here when you’re ready. ✨
